Go into the woods and tell your story
You are not at home
there, but
you love the romance
of it, and the
challenge.
13 miles
alone
in the forest.
The loamy green floor,
glints of sunlight
and blossoms
peaking through
here and there.
The occasional sound
of a nearby stream
gurgling and wooshing as
water pours itself over
smooth rocks.
The mystery
of searching
for the trail markers and
wondering
if you are lost.
The exhilaration and
fear
of being alone
blending with
the concern
that someone will
find you.
The biting flies
that you slap off of
sweaty
shoulder blades,
as you brush away
the voice
telling you to
give up.
