And if you discover some old piece of your writing, or an old photograph, you may not remember
and yet
it will ring a bell and you will consider it a gift to be taken back to that moment, that thought, that former you who once existed and has something in common with you now. The story will be familiar, but not fully belonging to you, since it escaped your memory and could be the story of someone else. You wonder if you like this person, if they were better than you are now, or if you have improved with age. There is a bittersweet longing to meet this former you, to parent her, or hang out and have a glass of wine with her while watching her parent her children – your children. Your memories are not clear, so the concept of a time machine comes to mind as you wistfully imagine what it would be like to be fully reminded of who you were.
